THE LEAGUE CLUB AWARDS $321,764 IN GRANTS TO 37 COLLIER
AND LEE NON PROFITS IN 2016
The League Club distributed a record amount in grants to a record number of
non-profit agencies in Collier and Lee Counties on April 8. The grant awards,
from the organization’s Community Trust Fund, totaled $321,764 - the highest
amount ever distributed to local charities in one year by The League Club.
Presented at The League Club’s annual Briefcase Breakfast, the event brought
together nearly 100 sponsors, agencies, and Club members who networked and
gained a better understanding of the range of needs that exists today in
The charitable programs the League Club is able to support through its grant-
making benefit babies, children, families and older people in need, as well as
programs involving the environment and the arts. Each year grants are reviewed
and discussed by The League Club’s all volunteer Community Involvement
Committee and are awarded for one-year projects or badly needed services,
equipment, and improvements to make a valuable impact in the lives of local
people. In total, The League Club has distributed more than $3,500,000 to non-
profit causes since 1986.
President Susan Mainwaring said, “The needs in our community are growing
and make the decisions of our grant review committee very challenging. Through
The League Club’s fundraising events, such as this year’s “She Said, He Said:
Love,Life & Politics with Mary Matalin & James Carville, presented by Northern
Trust,” we were pleased and grateful to be able to give so much to help our
community partners raise the quality of life for residents in Collier and Lee
Counties. We thank our nearly 600 members, our Circle of Friends supporters,
the community members who support our events, and our business sponsors.
Their financial generosity and caring for the community are what enable us to
make these grants.
The Vice President and Chair of the Community Involvement Committee,Gigi
Stewart, said, “What a rewarding year to be able to give so many nonprofit
agencies funding for so many worthwhile projects. This year’s record amount
of $321,764 was raised through The League Club’s major fundraising event in
2015 – “Your Life Calling, a Conversation with Jane Pauley, presented by
IBERIABANK.” We are pleased to be supporting several new agencies this year
and we hope to extend our reach further in years to come. Each agency’s
invaluable work will help make Southwest Florida a better place to live.
We thank each of the agencies we support for their commitment and dedication.”
